Four years in college may seem like a life time right now, but it goes by way too fast. Welcome to the best four years of your life! We’re so excited that you’ll be spending them with us here at George Mason. From Freshman Orientation to Mason Madness, Homecoming, and Mason Day, there are many traditions that you will become a part of once you join the Mason Nation.
Each year George Mason offers many on-campus events for students to enjoy. Whether its a Mumford & Sons concert, or comedic relief from Aziz Ansari, Mason has it all. Other fun events that take place on campus each year are Mason Madness, Homecoming, and Mason Day.
Each year before the opening of the basketball season, George Mason University puts on Mason Madness, a grand-
scale pep rally. “Mason Madness is a wonderful tradition that brings students, faculty, staff, alumni, and all fans together to launch a new basketball season, support our coaches and teams, and get our voices warmed up for a season of cheering,” says Chris Clark-Talley, Associate Vice President for Alumni Affairs. “The celebration has become a ‘don’t miss’ event. But it’s not just about basketball. It’s about spirit and community, and most important, pride!”
Many Mason student organizations fill the stands for Mason Madness, and there are even performances by Urbanknowlogy, GMU’s own hip-hop dance group, and the ever-rocking, electrifying stylings of Doc Nix and the Green Machine. After the performances, the men’s basketball team will scrimmage each other so that the Mason faithful can see their team in action.
Each year, George Mason students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other fans come together to celebrate GMU Homecoming. Our homecoming takes place during the basketball season, and is a great way to show our Patriot pride. From lots of fun activities to tailgating, Homecoming is a ‘can’t miss event’ for all.
Every spring, George Mason hosts its annual “Mason Day”, a time for students to celebrate their school with fungames, carnival rides, and live music from national artists including The Roots, The Black Eyed Peas, Run-DMC, Sum 41, T-Pain, Cobra Starship, the Plain White Tees, and Andy Grammar. With free food, free games, and free music, Mason Day is a fun atmosphere to relax with friends right before finals week!
